Normal Public Library Activity Guides

Vector & hand-drawn cover illustration

Every quarter—winter, spring, summer, and fall—a new Activity Guide is released, featuring new cover art. I come up with the concept and create the illustration using a combination of vector illustration in Adobe Illustrator and hand-drawn illustration using paper and pen, as well as Procreate.

Introducing guides to the library

In 2016, when I joined Normal Public Library as their first graphic designer, the primary way of promoting activities and services was individual flyers created by marketing and programming staff. This led to an unmanageable workload, inconsistent aesthetics, and last-minute program planning.

The solution—a quarterly activity guide. Each guide features every upcoming activity for a three-month span, all in one place.

I design every part of the guide myself—layout, cover art, and internal graphics—and collaborate with programming staff to help write event descriptions, ensuring they follow the writing standards I developed.
